Various Artists - Three

Negative Sound Institute. Three words. Three years. Three sounds.

The trilobite, an extinct marine arthropod, featured bodies with three lobes. Trilobites began to swim in the Cambrian era. The last trilobites known to have swum in the Devonian era. The earliest trilobite fossils date from over 500 million years ago. The most recent trilobite fossils date from about 200 million years ago. When considered in light of the three hundred million years of trilobite evolution, the third anniversary of Negative Sound Institute appears might be deemed less than an enternal, earth-shattering event. Our compilation album, "Three", nonetheless seeks to celebrate our continued swim in the ocean of netlabels.

We're delighted to release this, our 24th release, featuring artists who have previously been released on NSI. We asked each artist to compose a track entitled "Three". Our goal is to show that "Three" comes in many shapes, forms and glyphs. Even our artists tend to evolve a bit, trilobite-like. Mystified, for example, appears here in his guise as Mister Vapor.

During the three years of our existence, our releases have been featured in podcasts, videos, reviews, and the hearts and minds of like-minded listeners. We've been grateful for the kindness people have shown. It's made us believe in the power of sharing culture and liberally-licensed music.

Like a trilobite, we hope to continue to swim and evolve. Our releases, by design, will continue to be on a modest scale. We founded this netlabel with a love for ambient music, and a determination not to be tethered to narrow genre labels. We're delighted with the reception we have received. We're delighted, also, to invite you to share our music, "Three" times over. It's our way of evolving and sharing and evading extinction. We hope you'll join us and swim along.
